Intro

Last year I took the exams to gain Fundamental, Associate, and Expert Azure DevOps Microsoft certifications. Those were not needed(required), but a good learning/challenge opportunity that I took.

This year I wanted to renew them, so I did :) If you want to learn more about this process, please continue. Otherwise, you will surely find something more interesting (for you) in the list that contains this article:

The process

To be frank, the way everything was designed was extremely nice and well-intended. The process was/is easy to understand and simple to go from one step to another. So, kudos to Microsoft for the entire thing.

You probably know by now that I hate steps to achieve anything, and if you don’t, I recommend this small piece about perfection :)

Ok, so joking aside, these are the steps to follow with your recertification journey:

  1. First, you will receive an email 90 days before your certification expires
  2. Fundamental certifications do not expire
  3. In those 90 days, you can renew your certifications for free
  4. The renewal is done by passing an online non-proctored (without supervision) exam
  5. You have unlimited retries, but after the first two failed, you need to wait 24 hours before a retake
  6. You have an entire learning platform built around exams/certifications, and the subjects in the exam can be learned directly from there
  7. You pass the exam, and your certifications are renewed for one more year

Tips & tricks

Be calm, and start early after you receive the 90 days notice. This way you will have enough time to study and attempt(s) them.

Try bluntly once, and if you succeed congrats, otherwise, this will be a valuable lesson for the retry.

With this first attempt, you will:

  1. Understand/remember the format of the questions
  2. Get a glimpse of the areas tested in real examples
  3. Understand the percentage you need to achieve to pass

Finally, after this first attempt, below your results, you will see highlights in their learning platform, of the areas that you need to improve on.

That’s it! Good luck with your attempts! If you have any certification journeys, please share them with me :) Questions? Shoot! I will also restart my AWS recertification soon :P (so keep close :)
